Grinding machines are used for surface finishing of a wide range of materials such as metal, wood, stone, glass or plastic and are used in different designs depending on the intended application, e.g. as tool, round, flat, coordinate and centerless grinding machines. Another distinguishing feature is the degree of automation: conventional grinding machines, for example, are particularly suitable for one-off and small-batch production, while CNC-controlled grinding machines demonstrate their efficiency advantages in large-batch production.
In the production process, grinding usually follows the cutting of a workpiece when the workpiece is to be further shaped, smoothed, sharpened, polished or freed from coatings.
Abrasive (Abrasives)
The finer the grain of the abrasive, the smoother the surface to be machined. In most cases, the abrasives used are papers or textiles that are coated with an abrasive layer of small abrasive particles made of corundum, silicon carbide or diamond. In addition, abrasive stones are also used, usually made of pressed and baked quartz sand, as well as liquid abrasives in the production of particularly precise workpieces.
Coolant and suction device
Since a lot of heat is released by friction during grinding, cooling lubricants are usually used to prevent damage to the material. In this process, the cooling lubricant is conveyed to the machining zone via nozzles and then recycled after use, i.e., filtered and cooled.
To ensure that the ground-off particles do not cause damage to the workpiece, grinding machines are usually equipped with an extraction or dedusting system. In addition, special oil mist separators are used to extract aerosols and steam.
Buy a grinding machine used
A used grinding machine is significantly cheaper to purchase than a new machine. To ensure that the investment remains profitable in the long term, it is important to ensure that the machine is in perfect condition before buying. One of the most important criteria is the cleanliness of the used grinding machine. The grinding dust produced during grinding consists of particularly fine particles, which can accumulate even in parts of the grinding machine that are difficult to access if the extraction and rinsing systems are inadequate. In addition, the bearings in particular must also be checked, as they are exposed to particular stresses due to the high speed of the spindles.
Our service technicians are familiar with the grinding machines of a wide variety of manufacturers and will be happy to assist you with their experience and their trained eye for an inspection of your desired machine.
